The true spirit of Christmas
Christmas... a holiday that I never actually enjoyed. In November 2000, 22 years ago, I lost my mom. And since then I never had a Christmas tree, until 3 years ago.
When I moved to Canada with my husband and my dogs, I had a family again to celebrate this holiday. In 2019, was the first time I actually decorated a Christmas tree by myself. I bought a lot of ornaments from big stores, it was beautiful, but it was... just a tree, decorated with a bunch of shiny balls.
And then 2020 was different, 2021 was better, and 2022.. I am starting to do what I like.

To have purpose is the new trend
Have you ever thought about wearing an unique piece and never find another one that is equal? This is one of the proposals of Monarca Collection, that is growing little by little.
In times where the fast fashion industry is taking over with large scale production, low quality fabrics, standardized clothes with a minimum cost to fabricate it, sometimes using slavery, here the work is slow, but with purpose.

Keep calm and be focused like a bird
Since a small kid, one of my favourite activities was to observe the animals. I always wanted to respect them, but sometimes I did not because of the culture I was inserted at.
I clearly remember, on the intervals of the tobacco harvest when I was around 12, during the breakfast, I was used to seat on the ground, eating and observing the ants. They would just run around with the small pieces of my sandwich that would fall, doing their hard and synchronized work, a true teamwork. I have this memory vivid in my mind. -
I'm proud to be a witch
The world is changing. To look around and perceive forces, that we tough that were buried long ago, rebirth, brings us some fear of what the future reserves to us.
It was centuries ago when the witch hunt began. Between the years of 1500 until 1750 there are reports from several parts of the world where women were tortured, persecuted, murdered for being.. women.

Depressive phases x the algorithm
Are you seeing this picture? This is me, doing one of the things that brings me peace and happiness. To be in the middle of the nature, watching and taking pictures of animals, the very core of this project, to preserve and appreciate all the beauty of the nature that surrounds us, and to allow that the future generations also can see with their own eyes the whole beauty of this world.
But this picture is not actual. I've lost myself so much in the "introspection" that I don't even remember the last time I did that. Today, I can understand this phases that we go through, differentiate between self analyzing phases and introspective phases, and the actions I took going through these times when I was a kid, a teenager and an adult. -
The clock is ticking
Today I want to talk about something that worries me a lot. And maybe, you that are reading this, will understand the urgency of what we are doing with ourselves. There is an American ecologist, called David Brower, that compiled the whole world existence into a week, to be easier for us, simple humans, to understand things.
If the 5 billions of the earth would be compiled into a week, half of this time our planet would be settling itself. Wednesday noon, the first signs of life would appear. This is 3 and a half days later!

Be proud to be yourself
Today I want to talk about something that we, in 2022, shouldn't even be talking about. From August 21st to August 28th, Ottawa celebrates the Capital Pride Festival. Honestly, it is hard for me to understand that we, as a society, still need to have a week to celebrate the pride to be who we are. In an ideal world, to be yourself should be normal. You should not need to be scared to be who you are! We, as a society, have so many more challenges that put us all at risk, but it seems that some people still think that who or what you like is going to make any difference on this world. -
The endurance of the Monarch Butterfly can show us how to save ourselves
There are a few things that impress me like the Monarch Butterflies. Of course, when you see the nature working, it is amazing how it transforms itself, fighting to be alive. Here in Canada is specially outstanding, as during 4 or 5 months, everything is covered in snow, and on the spring everything grows so fast, trying to enjoy the new weather. -
July 28th: the day we started to borrow resources from next year
Our resources are LIMITED! Today, I would like to bring a very important subject to your attention. On the 70s, we started to outpace the capacity of our planet to renew the resources we utilize, and since then, each year we reach the "overshoot day" sooner and sooner.
And, unfortunately, today is the day in 2022 that we used all resources that the planet could renew sustainably. From this day until the last day of the year, we will be borrowing from next year. Like a paycheck, we will be charged by this bill, with interest. From a planet point of view, this is disturbing. But for Canada and US is even worse. We spent our resources for the whole year in March. We spent 12 months of resources in 3. -
Ordinary actions cause extraordinary effects
Welcome to my website, monarcacollection.ca. as you, reader, probably found out by now, I would like to change our mindset, as how we consume goods, how to be more sustainable, reuse things, and maybe we will have a shot to save this beautiful planet we call home. I will try to show that it is possible to live with what we already have here, in this material world.
