The clock is ticking
Today I want to talk about something that worries me a lot. And maybe, you that are reading this, will understand the urgency of what we are doing with ourselves. There is an American ecologist, called David Brower, that compiled the whole world existence into a week, to be easier for us, simple humans, to understand things.
If the 5 billion of the earth would be compiled into a week, half of this time our planet would be settling itself. Wednesday noon, the first signs of life would appear. This is 3 and a half days later!
Sunday, 4pm, the reptiles would appear on Earth. Can you imagine that? Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and most of the Sunday, we would only be evolving for the first reptile to show up.
At 9pm of this Sunday, the meteor comes and the dinosaurs are vanished from this planet. At 11:57, on this hypothetical Sunday, the human species appear.
So, let's summarize this. If the planet life would be encompassed in a week, the human species would appear on the last 3 minutes only. Jesus Christ would be born at 11:59:59,750. A quarter of second before midnight. Can you imagine that? A whole week has passed.. and Jesus would be born just a quarter of a second before midnight.
And now, after all this story, comes the really scary part.
The industrial revolution would take place 1/40 of a second before midnight. Or, in more general terms, planet Earth would take a whole week to create the conditions for us, humans, to inhabitate it, and we would take 1/40 of a second to destroy 30% of it.
How can we be sustainable? How our future generations will live here? We took 200 years to simply decimate our resources. Thousands of species disappeared from this planet due to human actions. 200 years is 4 generations! I am 33 years old. If I die with 100 years, that would be 2089. The next generation would live up until 2130. The next, 2165.
Are we going to have a planet to our grandsons?
The way we are doing, we definitely will not have a planet to our grand grand sons.. and this is SCARY.
We NEED to change this NOW!!!
